Together with Impierce, their digital identity solutions, and educational institutions, we are investigating what a wallet with a digital identity and verifiable credentials can mean for education and the labor market.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is UniMe?
UniMe is an open-source digital identity wallet that allows you to prove your identity, connect to services with ease, and share only the information you choose, without compromising your privacy. It facilitates secure interactions with third-party services while giving you full control over if, when, and with whom you share your data.
Why should I use UniMe?
Enroll in a course, apply for a job, or open a bank account with a single tap. Access digital apps and physical spaces without the need for passwords or lanyards. Prove your age or verify your address without oversharing personal data. UniMe allows you to engage with services quickly and simply, while keeping your data entirely under your control.
How does UniMe protect my privacy?
Your information lives locally in UniMe and is private by default. Once a credential is issued by an organization and you collect it in your wallet, it cannot be tracked by the original issuer. Issuers only retain the capability to revoke or re-issue them. You are always in control of which services you engage with and what data you choose to share. Your information is never transmitted or revealed without your explicit permission.
Do you charge any fees for using UniMe?
No, UniMe is open-source and free to use. Our code is publicly available so anyone can verify that UniMe does exactly what we say it does: keeping your data private and completely under your control.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Because UniMe prioritizes your privacy, your data is stored locally on your device rather than on a central server. Currently, losing your device means losing access to your credentials, and you would need to re-collect them from the original issuers. A privacy-preserving backup method is planned which will allow you to securely recover and restore your wallet using cloud storage under your control.
