Partnership announcement: ZKTeco and Impierce

In today's digital world, unlocking a secured area should be as fast and easy as unlocking your phone. Yet, many organizations still rely on high-friction physical processes, badges are forgotten, keys are lost, and manual verification creates unnecessary administrative overhead and user frustration.

Physical access control, entering an office, factory, or hotel room, is about to change. For too long, organizations have been forced to choose between fast, efficient entry and robust, compliant identity verification. Now, thanks to a new collaboration between ZKTeco and Impierce Technologies, you don't have to choose.

We’re excited to announce our partnership with ZKTeco Europe and the integration of our digital identity software with their ZPAD PLUS 4G terminal. This merges physical access with the privacy-first world of European Digital Identity (EUDI) wallets and enables autonomous, condition-based physical access across industries and borders.

Seamless, Condition-Based Access Meets Next-Gen Compliance

Imagine walking up to a secured door, scanning a QR code with your EUDI Wallet (like UniMe), and being granted access instantly. The hardware device itself autonomously checks that the conditions for entry are met, all based on a verified credential. That’s the user experience we're seeking to deliver together.

The physical access flow involves a two-step process, first provisioning, then physical access:

Credential Issuance: The organization (e.g., an employer) securely issues a verifiable credential containing access condition details (e.g., "Active Employee Status" or “Guest Lecturer”). The user collects this credential (e.g., through an email or web portal), which is then stored securely in their EUDI Wallet.

Initiation: The user scans a QR code on the terminal using their preferred EUDI Wallet.

Condition Check & Consent: The terminal autonomously requests a specific verifiable credential. The EUDI Wallet prompts the user for explicit consent to share only that necessary, verified data.

Physical Access: If the required condition is met and consent is given, the credential's validity is checked (including real-time revocation status), authentication occurs instantly, and access is granted automatically.

The security is enhanced by the credential issuer's ability to instantly revoke a credential, immediately disabling the user's access across all integrated points. Furthermore, credentials can be time-based, automatically expiring access rights when a set time limit (e.g., 90 minutes for a delivery person, 24 hours for a temporary visitor, or valid for 1 year) is reached.

This is more than just speed; it's about future-proofing your organization against compliance risks. By leveraging the EUDI Wallet, the solution ensures:

GDPR Alignment: Identity verification is privacy-centric, with users in complete control of sharing their data.

eIDAS 2.0 Readiness: Verification is aligned with the upcoming European eIDAS framework, ensuring confident and trustworthy digital identity verification.

Cross-Border Interoperability: The system is built to work seamlessly across borders, supporting verified digital identities for a mobile workforce.

Beyond the Door: Operational Efficiency

This solution is also about more than just a smooth, privacy preserving user experience; it transforms how internal teams operate behind the scenes. Compliance, Security, and Privacy teams gain peace of mind knowing every access event is governed by explicit user consent and is instantly verified, significantly simplifying audit trails and reporting. HR and Operations teams can reduce administrative overhead by eliminating manual badge management and time-consuming document verification processes. Together, our digital identity software and ZKTeco's hardware solutions turn physical access management from an operational barrier into a secure, automated background process for the entire enterprise.

From employee access management to visitor authentication using temporary digital credentials, this integration delivers next-generation, secure, condition-based physical access across industries.
